Information for patients and the public

Dorset County Hospital Library exists to support NHS staff and students and social care staff. Patients and members of the public may use the Library during staffed hours for reference purposes.

The NHS Website Reliable and authoritative information on many medical conditions, and local healthcare services.

NHS Evidence Includes guidelines and other material from NICE, government departments, professional bodies and major charities. Includes British National Formulary and UK Medicines Information.

Patient UK offers evidence based information to patients and healthcare professionals.

Healthtalkonline and Youthhealthtalk offer information and support on a range of health issues from seeing and hearing people’s real life experiences.

Pubmed  Covers a wide range of medical and other healthcare journals. Does not link to full text articles.:

Personal visits:

Patients and members of the public are welcome to visit the Library during staffed hours (8.30 – 17.00, Monday to Thursday and 08.30 – 16.30 Fridays, excluding Bank Holidays).  The Library offers reference-only access to our resources.
