Library Catalogue (SWIMS)
SWIMS is the abbreviated name of our regional network of libraries. Library members are given a SWIMS account and card or barcode to use the library’s self-issue machine. The catalogue can be viewed here.
NHS Knowledge and Library Services Hub
The NHS Knowledge and Library Hub connects NHS staff and learners to high quality knowledge and evidence resources in one place. Provided by Health Education England, it includes:
- journals, books and databases
- clinical decision support resources including NICE Guidelines and BMJ Best Practice
- resources purchased nationally and locally
- one-click links to full-text, request a copy or contact an NHS library
Full access is free to all NHS staff and learners using your NHS OpenAthens account.
Clinical Decision Support Tools
BMJ Best Practice
BMJ Best Practice is a clinical decision support tool, uniquely structured around the patient consultation, with advice on symptom evaluation, tests to order and treatment approach. Access to BMJ Best Practice is provided by Health Education England to all NHS staff in England.
Dynamed is available on the Trust Intranet homepage and is a point of care support resource. Useful for clinicians, DynaMed combines the highest quality evidence-based information, expert guidance and a user-friendly, personalized experience to deliver accurate answers fast at the point of care.
Books and ebooks
Library members have access to a high quality collection of print and electronic books, that are continually updated in line with user recommendations and the release of new editions. We aim to cover the requirements of all those employed in the trust and so while our collection is primarily clinically focused, we do also offer books on topics ranging from customer care to coaching. Our wellbeing collection also offers books on healthy lifestyles, stress management and personal effectiveness.
You must be a member of the library to borrow a book. You can check to see if we have the title you need on the library catalogue or hub and whether it is available. Please contact the library team if you need any help with finding the item/s you want.
ClinicalKey offers a wide range of ebooks (and ejournals and a load more!) which can be accessed and read with your OpenAthens username and password. You can find ebooks on the ClinicalKey platform directly or via the SWIMS catalogue or hub.
Oxford Medicine Online
E-book collection which includes all the Oxford Medicine Handbook series, the Oxford Handbooks in Nursing and the ‘Emergencies in…’ series. The collection features over 130 key titles including the Oxford Textbook of Medicine, Emergencies in Critical Care, the Oxford Handbook in Adult Nursing and many more. Users will need to use the ‘Sign in now’ button to sign in using OpenAthens.
Kortext
Kortext is an eBook and eTextbook provider of digital copies of key medical, nursing and healthcare titles. The collection features a number of titles and new titles are being added frequently. Texts can be read either via the the desktop platform or the mobile app and the platform has features to support easy navigation of texts, such as key word or term searching, the ability to select and highlights passages of text, ability to make notes and export them to email, bookmarking of pages and more. To access Kortext you’ll need an OpenAthens username and password.
