View the solar eclipse safely!

Weather permitting, Friday 20th March 2015 will bring a rare and exciting opportunity to see a solar eclipse.

However, you must never look directly at the sun without special eye protection such as “eclipse shades”, so try these ideas for safe viewing.Colander

A colander will come in handy! In normal circs the light through the colander holes is projected as circles, but during the partial eclipse these will become crescents.

Looking at the shadows of leaves on the ground will also show little crescents.

In Dorchester, the partial eclipse starts at 08.21 with maximum eclipse (85%) at 09.27, ending 10.27. Happy eclipse viewing folks!
